Senior Taliban leaders killed in Afghanistan

KABUL: A number of Taliban militants were killed and several others were arrested in an ambush by security forces in Obe district in western Herat province of Afghanistan, according to local authorities.
 
Provincial governor spokesman MohiuddinNoori said two Senior Taliban leaders including Taliban's district chief for Obe and a prominent commander were killed during the clashes.
 
Noorifurther added 25 Taliban militants were also arrested following the gun battle.
 
In the meantime five Afghan national police officers and five Afghan national army soldiers were also killed, Afghan online newspaper (Khaama Press) quoted local official saying.
 
Noori confirmed the death of Obe district security chief in fight with the Taliban militants.
 
The clashes took place after Afghan security forces conducted an operation to free four vehicles belonging to a non-governmental aid agency, which were taken by the Taliban militants.
 
Meanwhile a senior security officials in Herat province said at least 15 Afghan security forces were killed or injured and several others are still missing.
 
Taliban group yet to comment regarding the report. (QNA)
