Doha: Doha Bank will be hosting a special edition of the Al Dana Green Run community fun and awareness event to commemorate Qatar hosting the United Nations Climate Change Conference in November.

The 8th installation of Al Dana Green Run will be hosted today at Aspire Zone and race participants will run a 3-km course set around Khalifa Stadium and its surrounding facilities. Every year, Doha Bank strives to make the green run an event for the whole family and there will therefore be a range of activities and entertainment options for families and people of all ages adjacent to Khalifa Stadium.

There are five categories of races. They include races for men and women above and below 18 years, as well as for people with special needs. Participants will also be entertained with fun competitions for adults and children before the start of the run, and receive both recognition and prizes for their participation and performance. Al Dana Green Run is an annual favourite of families seeking a memory worth remembering.

Participants can register in advance online to avoid queues on site by visiting www.dohabankmarathon.com. The Bank is also offering free fitness tests and registration at Doha Bank Assurance Company on C-ring road, Doha Bank City Center branch, and the Bank’s Mobile branch which is parked at Al Bidda park on the Doha Corniche.

Entries to the races are free for all categories and winners will receive exciting prizes from the bank.

Doha Bank Group Chief Executive Officer R Seetharaman said: “This special edition of Al Dana Green Run on 24th November is an opportunity for the people of Qatar to demonstrate their commitment to environmental causes which are particularly important today. We encourage everyone to save the date, participate and have a great time. We are proud that Qatar is the host of the prestigious UN Climate Change summit in 2012 and want to demonstrate our commitment to the country’s pioneering role in the Middle East of working towards making a difference in our communities as well as bringing the world together to promote dialogue and achieve consensus on such an important global subject.”

Sessions of the 18th Conference of the Parties (COP18) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the 8th Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (CMP8), will be held at the iconic Qatar National Convention Centre in Doha from 26 November 26 to December 7 and Doha Bank will be hosting this special edition of Al Dana Green Run just prior to the event, encouraging people from all over Qatar to demonstrate their commitment to the environment during this time when the world’s top environmental advocates and policymakers will be in Doha to chart a course for a more sustainable future.

Seetharaman said: “Doha Bank is particularly committed to creating a strong platform for the youth of today to contribute to the progressive socio-environmental and intellectual development of society. Doha Bank hosts the Al Dana Green Run each year because we firmly believe that our objectives as corporate and individual representatives of the community should include the commitment to reduce our overall carbon footprint and ensure sustainable development.”

Every year, Al Dana Green Run raises awareness of wild life preservation and environmental protection, amongst many other subjects that impact the environment and ecosystem. Professionals and homemakers, men, women and children, sports enthusiasts and members of various socio-cultural groups actively participate in the event.

The run also helps reinforce Doha Bank’s message as the bank to have introduced the very first Green Account in Qatar, wherein all banking transactions are done through electronic channels, thus rationing the use of paper.
