DOHA: Energy giant, Total, recently gathered all its major contractors in its annual HSE (Health, Safety, Environment) Contractors forum, to demonstrate this year’s motto of ‘better together’.
Over 50 attendees which include Total’s contracting companies, as well as Total’s Management, HSE, Asset and Operations departments, and contractor management teams came together to reinforce the company’s commitment to safety.
Participating companies were invited to share their perspectives on Total’s Golden rules, the challenges they faced, and lessons learnt. ‘Golden Rules’ as a part of the safety culture programme implemented by the Total worldwide, which, when implemented diligently, significantly reduces the risk of incidents.
An award ceremony was also organised to reward contractors for the best HSE performance for 2015 based on a strict selection criteria. Dopet, who works in Total’s offshore site ‘Al Khalij Field’, was awarded.
Eric Delattre, Vice-President Al Khalij Asset and Vice-President Operations gave the opening speech at the event stressing on the importance of safety. “Safety is not only the top most priority, it’s the way we do business. Our success as a company strongly depends on our commitment to safety, our attitude and behaviour. We want to continue working fruitfully with our contractors, and breaking any barriers there are to create a better working environment. We will take all what is being said in this event, and continue to reinforce safety best practices. I would like to thank all attendees, as the presence and participation of many of our contractor companies already demonstrates their commitment towards HSE”.
Contractors are of key priority to Total, as they perform a major part of the total man-hours. As a result, Total continues to maintain close collaboration with its contractors through initiatives that encourage informative exchanges.
Total has had a continuous presence in Qatar for close to 80 years, and is the only international oil company active in all branches of Qatar’s oil and gas sector. This includes exploration and production, refining and petrochemicals, and the marketing of lubricants.
