DOHA: The transport and communication sector achieved a production value of QR38bn in 2011, according to the findings of a survey by the Qatar Statistics Authority (QSA) yesterday.
A total of 589 establishments were covered in the survey, of which 279 (47 percent) were large establishments, defined as those employing 10 or more employees.
These were fully covered in the survey. The total number of employees in the transport and communications activity reached 37,887 persons; their annual salaries amounted to QR4.7bn, an average of QR124,000 per employee. The majority of the workers (95.4 percent) were non-Qataris.
Total production reached QR 38.4 bn, showing a nominal increase of 21.9 percent compared with the preceding year. The gross value added (GVA) reached QR17.5 billion.
Air transportation activity was the biggest contributor with a total production of QR 22 bn, an annual increase 25.7percent, and a gross value added of QR 4.8 bn. Post and communications comes in second place with an output of QR 6.6 billion, an annual growth rate of 11.9 percent.
Gross value added (GVA) per employee was QR 461,000, the QSA said.
