The semi-finals of the Al Kass Cup International will be played on January 29 while the final will be held on January 31.
on Tuesday, Esperance De Tunis advanced to the quarter-finals at the expense of AS Roma following a pulsating 1-1 draw to end the fourth day
With both sides having fallen short against Frankfurt in their previous fixtures, there was all to play for, and it was clear from the first whistle that the two teams were hungry for the win, .
Tunis started strongly, looking to progress up the field quickly, and snapping at the heels of the Italian players when deprived of the ball. Roma, on the other hand, lacked their opponents’ urgency, and played the ball around casually, without much purpose.
Esperance, meanwhile, knew that a draw would suffice due to their superior goal difference.
So it was to the enormous credit of the Tunisians that they pushed forward in search of a breakthrough, and one duly arrived on the hour mark when the effervescent Gurbouj ran onto a through ball in the inside right channel and hammered a strike into the bottom left corner, giving keeper Alessio Pagliarini no chance.
The Italians were handed a lifeline with a quarter lef tint he match.
The ball was headed over the Tunis backline to Luca Petrangaro, who appeared offside as he gathered and played Alessio Riccardi in. The substitute midfielder also looked to be offside as he stroked the ball home, but referee Ali Shams ruled that the goal should stand.
