First global anti-drug forum begins today

Doha: Under the patronage of Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, the First Qatar International Anti-Drug Forum begins at Doha Sheraton Hotel today. 
The two-day forum is organised by the Ministry of Interior under the theme ‘International experiences in the detection of trafficking routes and itineraries and methods of concealment’.
High-level international figures in the anti-drug trafficking field will attend. They include Jürgen Stock, Secretary-General, Interpol, Yury Fedotov, 
Executive Director, UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Dr Mohammed bin Ali Koman, Secretary-General, Council of Arab Interior Ministers, Brigadier General Issa Qaqish Hatem Ali, Director,  Arab Office on Drugs, and Justice Hatem Ali, Head, UNODC Office in the GCC. 
Delegates from over 22 countries and regional and international bodies and organisations will also participate.
Lt. Colonel Ibrahim Mohammed Al Samih, Chairman, Scientific Committee of the forum, said heads of GCC anti-drug agencies will also participate along with directors of GCC Coasts and Borders Security and Customs and Port authorities.
Representatives from Arab countries and south, east and west Asia, Europe, America and Africa will also attend.
Al Samih expected over 250 officials and experts at the international event to discuss more than 16 papers presented by specialists in the field of counter-narcotics from around the world. Experts will highlight findings and make recommendations to contribute to the fight against the drugs and trafficking routes and explore latest developments in the field.
Al Samih said the forum aims to enhance cooperation and coordination among all countries to exchange experiences and information and support efforts to address drug-related crimes. QNA
