Doha: The French Transport Minister Frederic Cuvillier, accompanied by the Foreign Trade Minister, Nicole Bricq, visited the Light Rail Transport (LRT) Project in Lusail.

They were welcomed by Qatar Rail’s Chief Executive Officer Engineer Saad Al Muhannadi, who also briefed them on the progress of the project.

Al Muhannadi said that the Light Tail Transport project in the city is central to transportation infrastructure in Qatar.

“It is one of the most important real estate development projects,” he said.

“The Lusail project is in very advanced stages with almost 100 per cent of the tunnelling phase completed, while work at stations have reached 50 per cent,” he added. The delegation expressed admiration for the project’s workflow.

The Light Rail Transport project is on schedule, and will be completed and handed over by 2016, Al Muhannadi said.

Qatar Rail signed a QR1.950bn contract with QDVC in February last year.

It includes engineering works in seven underground metro stations, the creation of a bridge over the highway between Doha and the Northern Area and preliminary work for the establishment of a special warehouse for Lusail rail and other maintenance workshops.
