Qatar University honours highest achieving students

DOHA: Qatar University honoured 174 distinguished students in a ceremony at the St Regis Hotel yesterday. 

Some 163 undergraduate students were celebrated for their academic achievements, having scored a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.5 or more during the year. Another 11 students received Non-Academic Awards, recognising their significant efforts in the fields of leadership, service to the university and sports.

The 10 highest-scoring students at the university this year, who each had a GPA of 3.95 or more, were all women. QU’s largest college, the College of Arts & Sciences, had five top students. The College of Business and Engineering had three students, while the College of Sharia and Islamic Studies and College of Engineering each had one student in the top 10.

Rawda Ali Al Mesned, Semsia Al Ali Mustafa, Shaima Jamal Alghaniem, Maide Bari, Maryam Abdulrahman Al Mutawa, Amtul Muqeet Umaima Abdul Basith, Dareen Maysarah Al Alami, Lara Hamade, Lolwa Hassan Al Ajami and Amna Abdulameer Yusif, were honored at the event for their achievements. 

Some 11 students honoured for their exemplary involvement in the university over the course of the year were each given Non-Academic Awards. Three students received recognition for Leadership — Ahmed Haitham Ghazi (College of Engineering), Sabah Al Kuwari (College of Business and Economics) and Azza Salah Elamin (College of Arts & Sciences).

The six Service awards went to AbdulQudoos AbdullBasith (College of Business and Economics), Khalid Mohamed Al Khamis (College of Engineering), Saad Abdelati Elasad (College of Engineering), Aisha Ali Khulaifi (College of Arts & Sciences), Omayma Abdulla Al Saei (College of Arts & Sciences) and Tamader Saeed Al Asmi (College of Arts & Sciences). The two students recognised for their contribution to Sports at the university were  Hassan Salman Al Thani from College of Arts & Sciences and Haya Abdulwahed Al Obaidly, also  from College of Arts & Sciences.

In a ceremony for the students, their friends and family, QU President Professor Sheikha Al Misnad presented the awards, along with the Vice President of Student Affairs, Dr Omar Al Ansari, other vice presidents, associate vice presidents, deans, assistant deans and heads of departments at the university.The Peninsula
