42sqm house in expat-dominated Najma sold for QR2.8m

DOHA: A small house of 42sqm in the expat-dominated working class locality of Najma was sold for QR2.8m (QR66,660 per sqm)  last week, real estate transactions show.
This is the first time in recent memory that such a small residential unit or plot has been sold in the country. However, according to a Qatari property evaluator who didn’t want his name in print, small houses or residential plots are not uncommon to find in localities like Najma and Musherib. “We occasionally have such sales,” the evaluator told this daily.
Meanwhile, sales figures during June 15 to 19, released by the Ministry of Justice, reveal that the property market remains a little subdued. There were 154 transactions compared to 175 the previous week, with the value adding up to QR811.84m.
A record was created earlier this month when the total sales in a week were worth over QR2.3bn. The figures (of property registration with the ministry) show that most properties for which deals were concluded in the week under review, involved small plots meant for residential use. A majority of the plots were in the municipalities of Umm Salal, Al Khor and Al Dhakheera, Doha, Al Rayan, Al Shamal, Al Dhayeen and Al Wakra.
The biggest deal involved a 1,550sqm plot in the posh Doha locality of Al Sadd which was sold for QR175m (QR1,12,830 per sqm). The Peninsula
