Deceit of ‘constructive media’

“Verily never will Allah change the condition of a people until they change it themselves (with their own souls).” — Surah Ar-Ra’d, the Holy Quran

As life gets more sophisticated, numerous means of communication are bringing all human beings, whether sane or insane, closer in a small global village. A village where, I believe, everyone knows each other as the old proverb says.

All sorts of global access are open, linking the whole wide world via the media: satellite channels, radio stations, etc. As always, there are certain things that could be described as good or bad, worthy or inferior, straightforward or insincere. The audience can instinctively distinguish between them.

But what if a false spot stains the media, attracting an audience of simple people in the name of religion, the curtain that ostensibly shows mercy while concealing lies and hypocrisy? Certainly, I point to those who claim to adopt the concept of “constructive media”, which has been created recently to deceive people who seek God’s mercy and fear His punishment.

Jalal Al Din Al Rumi said: “A wicked man rips off the language of dervishes to make up a myth to deceive simple people”.

It is absolute deception to launch a satellite channel attracting an audience of women more than men, making money through chat screens and religious tales.

Have those faithful people forgotten Allah’s saying in the Holy Quran: “But there are among men those who purchase idle tales without knowledge (or meaning) to mislead (men) from the path of Allah and throw ridicule (on the path): for such there will be a humiliating penalty.”

In his explanation of this verse, Sheikh Mohamed Metwally Al Shaarawy has made it clear that those who tell “idle tales” turn people away from the true logic of the Holy Quran. And that is folly.

In the verse, “purchase” means to obtain in exchange for money. We see by our own eyes how those people get money from the audience through voting in reality shows. Isn’t that obscene profiteering in the name of religion?

How could the “knights” of this constructive media give up their dignity to take money from the pockets of poor people so that they are not disqualified according to the rules of the contest?

Those who are vigilant would see all of this, and say: “No to deception, beggary and exploiting religion for personal interests!” “No to a mind that does not perceive or doubt”.

I write this as I shake off what struck me after watching such shows out of curiosity. I stand up, seeking the hand of God to put an end to all attempts to fool me.
