ISLAMABAD: There is a price for glory and four more climbers have paid for it. The Alpine Club of Pakistan (ACP) yesterday declared four Spanish mountaineers missing in Gasherbrum I (G1) after capturing the summit.
Col Manzoor Hussain, the president of the ACP, said that the three climbers who summated the 8,080 metres high peak in the Karakorum Range went missing on descent on Sunday. “The fourth climber, who also went up but did not summit for reasons not yet known, is also missing,” said Col Manzoor.
“It’s not humanly possible to survive at that altitude where winds are as strong as storm. Sub-zero temperatures add to complications and one becomes unaware of time passing,” said Col Manzoor, who got stranded on the 6,610-metre high Payu Peak in the Karakorum Range back in 1976. He said the Army Aviation had been requested to launch a search operation early yesterday.
