DOHA: Globally-acclaimed Jazz at Lincoln Center has found a new home at St Regis Doha Hotel where there would be six nights a week shows of various renowned jazz artists that will enthral a mixed culture of local jazz fanatics.
To perk up their crave for a truly classic live jazz show, the swinging sounds of critically-acclaimed New York-based Latin jazz artists The Rodriguez Brothers will reel off the club performance until October 3
Their first set from September 24 to 29 will be under the theme of “What is Jazz?” followed by “What is Afro-Cuban Jazz?” from September 30 to October 3.
The Rodriguez Brothers’ presentations will lead up to the venue’s grand opening on October 4, featuring The Wynton Marsalis Quintet, led by nine-time Grammy Award Winner Wynton Marsalis.
The Jazz at Lincoln Center Doha will host guests in a theatrical ambiance of intimate plush crescent-shaped banquettes and sweeping views of the Arabian Gulf.
The setting recalls the luxury of the Roaring 1920s, when the top jazz performers played at the St Regis New York’s elegant rooftop ballroom. Jazz aficionados will be able to enjoy a menu of New Orleans-inspired dishes, including fresh crawdaddies, mouth-watering gumbos and jambalayas, in addition to a Jazz Age selection of refined beverages.
“Jazz at Lincoln Center Doha is the new home for jazz in the Middle East,” said Tareq Derbas, General Manager of The St Regis Doha.
The Rodriguez Brothers are one of the top up-and-coming Latin Jazz performers, who uniquely combine Afro-Caribbean rhythms with Modern Jazz and European classical music.
Michael Rodriguez (trumpet) and Robert Rodriguez (piano) have recorded three albums together, and have played on Ray Barretto’s 2005 Grammy-nominated album “Time Was Time Is.” The Rodriguez Brothers have also toured around the world, enthralling audiences at top jazz festivals in New York, Monterrey and Iceland.
The Grand Opening on October 4 will include a rare appearance by The Wynton Marsalis Quintet led by Wynton Marsalis, a 9-time Grammy Award winner, Pulitzer Prize winner and United Nations Messenger of Peace. The living legend has previously sold out shows in the region.
