MANILA: A labour organisation yesterday bared that there are around 3,000 Chinese illegally working in multi-national private contractor in Bataan and Batangas. At the same time, the Trade Union Congress of the Philippines is alarmed over the phenomenon and its implication to employment opportunities for Filipino workers. The congress said unscrupulous foreign contractors were circumventing the law by applying for 300 work permits but actually employing hundreds of foreign workers.
Hostages freed in Cotabato
MANILA: The remaining hostages of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters in Midsayap, North Cotabato that included nine teachers were released by the rebels yesterday morning, a military official said. Philippine Army 7th Civil Relations Group commander Lt Col Harold Cabunoc said in his Twitter account that the nine school teachers were freed around 4.45am. Four village officials were also released by the rebels. The released captives now at the Amado Hospital in Midsayap town for medical check-up.
Commuter hurt in bus blasts
MAGUINDANAO: Suspected extortionists preying on operators of passenger vehicles set off two roadside bombs at a secluded stretch of the Secretary Narciso Ramos Highway, wounding a commuter and sparking panic among villages along the thoroughfare. The first improvised device went off along a portion of the highway at Pinantao District in southeast of Parang town in the first district of Maguindanao, followed by another 30 minutes later, along a curve less than 50 metres away. Investigation continues.
