Doha, Qatar: Al Jazeera Arabic correspondent Wael Dahdouh’s wife, daughter and son are among family members who have been killed in an Israeli shelling attack on his home in Gaza.

Al Jazeera’s managing editor has confirmed that correspondent Wael Dahdouh lost his wife, son and daughter in an Israeli air raid on a house they were sheltering in.

Dahdouh said that "Israeli forces hit his family in the southern Gaza Strip, where they travelled to after evacuating their home in the northern Gaza Strip following Israel’s order to evacuate."

“What just happened is clear; it’s part of the ongoing targeting of women and children in Gaza. I was just reporting on the Israeli strikes that have targeted the Nuseirat area.”

“We knew the Israeli occupation would not leave us without punishing us. They are taking out their revenge onto the children. But our tears are human, not out of cowardice,” he added.

Dahdouh had been reporting live on Al Jazeera Arabic all day, while his family stayed at a temporary home in the Nuseirat refugee camp.

Dahdouh’s wife, son, Mahmoud, who was a senior in high school, and his 7-year-old daughter Sham were killed, Al Jazeera has confirmed. Other members of his family are still missing.

His family, which was originally living in Gaza City, fled Israel’s bombardment to stay with relatives at the Nuseirat Camp.

Dahdouh stayed behind in Gaza City to continue covering the Israeli onslaught on the Gaza Strip.

As Dahdouh was reporting from Gaza City, he was told that an air strike had targeted a building that destroyed his extended family’s house.
