Qatari and UN flags flutter above QNCC

COP18/CMP8 security coordinator, Nawaf Al Ali, and the chief of the UNFCCC security team, Kevin O’Hanlon, hand over the Qatari and UN flags.

 

DOHA: The colours of the United Nations and Qatar are flying above the Qatar National Convention Centre after a ceremony to celebrate the United Nations Climate Change Conference, which begins here tomorrow.

The flags were presented by Nawaf Al Ali, COP18/CMP8 security coordinator, and Kevin O’Hanlon, chief of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) security team. 

More than 11,800 UNFCCC visitors have registered to take part in COP18/CMP8, which is the first one to be held in the Middle East.

COP18/CMP8 Doha will assess progress in climate change policy and offer a platform for members of the parties to adopt resolutions. 

The conference will be attended by over 17,000 visitors from 194 countries, including more than 7,000 members of non-governmental organisations, 1,500 members of the media and 90 television stations.
