LAHORE: The city district government of Pakistan’s garrison city of Rawalpindi has received from the European Union a bomb disposal van equipped with a robot, and X-ray device and other gadget to locate and defuse explosives to be used to secure Muharram-related and other high-profile events against any terrorist attack.

The latest bomb disposal van can carry the robot, allied gadgets and the officials concerned to an under-threat area to foil any terrorist bid in the city.

“Without putting any human life to risk, the robot, after detecting any expensive device through the X-ray machine, can safely defuse it. Moreover, it (robot) has the capacity to defuse a bomb through fire in an emergency situation,” District Coordination Officer Noor-ul-Amin Mengal said while presiding over a meeting held here to discuss measures to build capacity of the CDGL’s civil defence wing at the Town Hall.                     internews
