Some of the workers involved in the Corniche road project are honoured at a ceremony.
DOHA: The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) said yesterday it was in the process of blacklisting companies that had failed to fulfil their contractual commitments and they will not get a share in future projects of Ashghal.
“We are working on identifying companies that have failed to carry out their work as per the requirements and they will not be involved in new projects,” Nasser bin Ali Al Mawlawi, President of Ashghal, said.
He was speaking on the sidelines of a ceremony to honour companies and labourers who contributed to fast completion of the Corniche road project.
About the project, which involved conversion of all major roundabouts to intersections, Al Mawlawi said the Doha Sheraton and Four Seasons roundabouts will also be converted to signalised intersections. Work is expected to start in January next year.
Roundabouts already converted into intersections include Lodaihy (Oryx), Lejbailat, Onaiza, Museum of Islamic Art, Diwan, National Theatre, Wadi Al Sail, and Qatar Post, in addition to Grand Hamad Street and Al Mina intersections.
Work on the Corniche project began in July and was completed last month during Eid Al Adha holidays.
Al Mawlawi disclosed that there is a major project to expand C-Ring road, details of which will be announced soon.
Addressing the ceremony, Al Mawlawi said he was impressed by the speed at which the project was completed and praised the engineers and labourers who worked round-the- clock to make this possible.
Ashghal honoured 1,400 workers from different nationalities involved in the project, who were presented with watches, gift vouchers and certificates.
Al Mawlawi said Ashghal decided to honour workers, besides officials of the participating companies because the project was completed so quickly and during summer.
This meant the workers had to put a lot of effort in the hot weather to complete the project well in time.
He thanked officials of the Ministry of Interior, particularly the Traffic Department and Lekhwiya, for ensuring smooth traffic during the construction phase.
He appreciated contributions of the Public Parks Department at the Ministry of Municipality and Urban planning and Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) to the project.
