SANA’A: Qatar is donating $350m to a fund to compensate civilians and security force personnel in south Yemen who were forced out of their jobs.
An agreement to address issues arising from arbitrary termination of Yemeni employees and confiscation of land in the south, was signed by the Foreign Minister H E Dr Khalid bin Mohamed Al Attiyah and his Yemeni counterpart Dr Abu Bakr Al Qirbi in the Yemeni capital yesterday, witnessed by President Abd Rabbo Mansour Hadi and other officials.
In a speech, Dr Al Attiyah stressed that Yemen faced huge political, economic and social challenges resulting from ambitions and aspirations of the Yemeni people to achieve the process of change, construction and reform to boost national unity.
He expressed confidence that the Yemeni leadership and the government are moving forward towards implementation of aspired reform programmes in political, economic, social, development, and other fields.
He said the agreement reflected Qatar’s firm support for the Yemeni people and ties between both countries.
“I am pleased to point out here that the Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani had instructed the donation of $350m in support of the wise initiative of President Hadi for the compensation programme for those who had been sacked from their jobs and those whose lands were confiscated.”
He also stressed Qatar’s firm support for aspirations of the Yemeni people since the outbreak of the revolution, hoping that stability, security, sustainable development and a modern state would be realised in Yemen.
In separate talks with Hadi, Dr Al Attiyah conveyed greetings of the Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and his wishes of further progress and prosperity to the people of Yemen.
Hadi asked Dr Al Attiyah to convey his greetings to the Emir and his wishes of further progress and prosperity to the Qatari people.
He also hosted a luncheon in honour of Dr Al Attiyah and his delegation who were in Sana’a on a day’s working visit.
