DOHA: Katara has launched a project to create a bibliography of intellectual products in Qatar aimed at monitoring and documenting literary pieces and art works created here. Through this initiative, Katara seeks to build a repository of information on Qatari innovation and cultural figures as well as art and literature produced in Qatar set to provide a useful reference to researchers.
Katara General Manager Dr Khalid Ibrahim Al Sulaiti (pictured) said the project would produce a listing of intellectual products within a specific geographical location as well as categorisation of books which address cultural issues based on their dates and topics. The project, he said, would make sources easily accessible and would save the time and effort of researches.
The aim of this project is to document the cultural and innovative works of Qataris, introduce authors and guide researchers to the sources in addition to record the history of the cultural movement in Qatar, he added.
Khalid Abdulrahim Al Sayed, General supervisor of the project, said the idea of this project was derived from Qatar National Vision 2030 to build a prosperous society and shed light on those who laid the foundations of cultural works in Qatar.
He stressed the importance of honouring their contributions by documenting their body of works which are still influencing the Qatari society in different aspects including art, poetry, music, novels and fiction, among others. The project, he said, would be implemented in three phases because the area to be covered is vast and needs to cope with today’s development.
The project comes under the Katara Cultural Forum, a leading cultural programme in Qatar which organises events and cultural and literary programmes led by Qataris in line with the five-year strategy of Katara aimed to enrich the local, GCC and Arab cultural scene and encourage innovative works.
Meanwhile, Katara will host “Creative Essentials – Line and Color Workshop” by Penelope Rolland. The workshop will be held from November 29 to December 3 at Katara Art Studios Building 19. It is designed for all levels of artistic experience. This intensive five-day course intends to bring out a range of original tools and techniques that will strengthen observation and line drawing skills, intensify colour sensitivity, enhance composition, and propose the manufacture of sourcebooks for research and preparatory work.
Also, Katara Art Studios has launched QatArt exhibitions for handicraft which is held twice a month. The expos will be held on December 5 and 19 during which products including jewellery, paintings, drawings, accessories, clothes, house decors, photos, and boxes will be sold. In line with these expos handicraft workshops for children and adults are also held.
