DOHA: Qatar Career Fair (QCF) 2013 will allow exhibitors to register only if they have disclosed results of their last year’s participation.

And in an effort to streamline registration processes, QCF has introduced registration via its website, organisers said yesterday.

The annual recruitment event has implemented strict rules for exhibitors to submit details about their recruitments, training and development programmes.

Compulsory workshops will be held for selected participants on how to deal with visitors, said Abdullah Al Mansoori, Executive Director, Qatar Career Fair, during a press conference yesterday at the Club House of Education City.

QCF 2013 will be held between April 1 and 6 at the Qatar National Convention Centre.

The national recruitment fair is organised by Qatar Foundation, Qatar Petroleum, the Emiri Diwan, Qatar University and the Ministry of Labour.

“Around 94 percent of last year’s exhibitors have submitted their details. We don’t like people taking part without proper organising,” said Al Mansouri.

An annual report disclosing the total number of people hired by various organisations through QCF 2012 will be released by end of this month.

However, recruitment details of some major players of the QCF were unveiled yesterday.

The Ministry of Labour has sent 180 students to study abroad on scholarships through different institutions. Qatar Petroleum hired 681 graduates from universities and high schools through QCF 2012 and offered a high number of scholarships for Qataris.

Qatar Foundation has hired 71 employees and 93 graduates from high schools and universities as trainees. It has also provided scholarships for 33 high school graduates.

About 289 individuals were assessed on site and provided with a detailed feedback on their potential in professional development through Qatar Foundation’s Assessment Centre.

Over 140 exhibitors have registered for QCF 2013. They include Qatar’s leading institutions from all sectors. They will play a pivotal role in providing young Qataris, especially students and fresh graduates, with professional guidance and advice on career opportunities and alternatives available to them.

A series of lecturers will take place to coincide with QCF, throughout this month and March. They will focus on educating Qatari youth on career opportunities in different sectors as energy, sports and arts.

“QCF has introduced new outreach programmes such as a series of lectures aimed at educating young Qataris on their employment prospects in major sectors of the national economy. Our purpose is to instil a career culture amongst youth and get them thinking about how they can contribute to the future of their country,” said Al Mansoori.

The first lecture of the series will be held tomorrow at Texas A&M University in Education City which will discuss the role of Qatari youth in the energy sector.   The Peninsula
