Internationally-acclaimed concert pianist Jie Chen from China visited Compass International School Madinat Khalifa. She was invited to the school as a result of the partnership with the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra.
Dr Terry Creissen, Principal of Compass International School, Madinat Khalifa said: “It was a fantastic opprtunity for the students to meet Jie and listen to her perform. Some of our students played for her in return and she was impressed by the standard.”
After her interactive session with the students, she answered questions from the students. They were keen to understand how she became such a proficient and successful pianist. The Head Boy and Girl presented Jie with flowers and a gift and she in turn presented Dr Creissen with a painting and the children with her personal calendar to mark Chinese New Year.
Students in Year 7 have been studying Chinese music this term and were very fortunate that Jie Chen was able to select some of the students for special awards as part of their project. Dr Creissen who spent 5 years as a Principal in Shanghai was even heard speaking a little Mandarin. The Peninsula
