Doha: The Philippine Embassy is inviting its community in the country to join the online celebrations of Philippine festivals today which will be broadcasted live via Department of Foreign Affair’s (DFA) Facebook Page and YouTube Channel.
Dubbed as “Fiesta Filipinas Rerun: An Online Celebration of Philippine Festivals,” this is a project of DFA in partnership with the National Commission on Culture and the Arts and the Department of Tourism.
It will highlight the Lami-Lamihan Festival of Lamitan in Basilan, which means “merry making” in Yakan. It is a celebration of the rich culture of the Yakan tribe that promotes cultural harmony among the Yakan, Tausug, and Christian communities in the area. Also, the Masskara Festival or “many faces” in Bacolod, similar to Brazil’s Rio Carnival.
This event is in line with the celebration of the National Arts Month this February.
DFA said: “Let us revisit the cities of Zamboanga and Basilan and see the beauty and artistry that these places have to offer. Let’s celebrate once again the rich culture of the Yakan tribe through the Lami-Lamihan Festival.”
The event will be held at 10AM PST. The Lami-Lamihan Festival is the sixth episode of the program. In total, there are six episodes and a special episode. The online event started on February 5 and will conclude tomorrow. Among the festivals featured are Giant Lantern, Sinulog, Ati-atihan, Dinagyang, Panagbenga, Visita Iglesias, Flores de Mayo, and Masskara.
