Doha, Qatar: A joint delegation from Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) and Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has visited the Republic of Guinea-Bissau to supervise operations and distribute Qatari humanitarian aid to hundreds of families affected by the recent humanitarian crises and natural disasters across the country.
The visit was part of a project to strengthen the resilience of vulnerable communities to recurring disaster risks in Guinea-Bissau. Funded by QFFD and co-implemented by QRCS and the Red Cross Society of Guinea-Bissau, the project is aimed at helping vulnerable communities respond and adapt to future natural disasters in six regions experiencing consistent extreme weather (Gabú, Bafatá, Bissorã, São Domingos, Biombo, and Bolama Bijagós).
Through this project, approximately 1,500 families affected by various disasters that occurred between 2022 and 2025, including fires, strong winds, floods, and drought, received assistance to help reduce their suffering and recover from the damage caused.
The provisions included food staples (such as rice, beans, onions, potatoes, sugar, and vegetable oil); nonfood items (such as mattresses, tents, straw mats, kitchenware, plastic buckets, solar panels, and mosquito nets); and shelter materials (such as nails, ropes, and zinc roofing sheets).
The delegation held coordination meetings with officials of the Red Cross Society of Guinea-Bissau, as well as local leaders in several host cities. They also took part in the distribution of food and nonfood aid to families affected by the recent fires, and they inspected some damaged local markets and health centres.
