Doha, Qatar: The Government Scholarship Programme has reaffirmed its success in meeting national targets and aligning with key development priorities, as the 2026-2027 edition expanded focus areas and strategic enhancements.

The programme continues to play a pivotal role in advancing Qatar National Vision 2030 by supporting research, innovation, and the development of highly qualified national cadres.

In an interview with Qatar TV, Noura Mohammed Al-Ansari, Director of the Scholarships Department at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, said: “We are not just preparing students; we are shaping future leaders.”

She said that the programme has demonstrated measurable progress in shifting from a quantity-based model to a quality-driven approach.

“Rather than focusing on increasing the number of scholarship recipients, the new strategy prioritizes selecting high-caliber students whose specializations directly address the needs of the national labor market,” said Al-Ansari.

She said that this targeted approach ensures that scholarship investments translate into tangible contributions to economic growth and sustainable development.

Al-Ansari highlighted four core objectives guiding the programme: economic growth, talent diversification, talent development, and equal opportunities.

She said that these pillars underpin a comprehensive framework designed to balance educational, economic, and social priorities, reinforcing the programme’s role in building a knowledge-based economy.

“A key success factor in the new edition is its strong alignment with national workforce requirements. The programme works closely with strategic partners, including the Civil Service and Government Development Bureau and the Ministry of Labour, to identify priority specializations,” said Al-Ansari.

She said that among the newly emphasized fields is nuclear engineering, introduced in partnership with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change to support Qatar’s energy and environmental sectors.

“The programme offers competitive benefits, including financial allowances, employment status from the start of the scholarship, and the inclusion of study years within total service,” said Al-Ansari.

She said that the 2026-2027 plan also introduces innovative programmes that respond to emerging societal needs. Clinical psychology has been added following recent studies indicating a shortage in this field, to enhance mental health services and improve quality of life.

“Additionally, a bridging programme has been launched to enable graduates from the humanities track to transition into scientific disciplines, broadening access to high-demand fields such as engineering and technology,” said Al-Ansari. She said that in a significant step towards inclusivity, the programme has introduced a dedicated international scholarship track for students with disabilities.

“This initiative ensures equitable access to higher education by supporting diverse needs through specialized academic environments and tailored assistance, including personal aides where required.

“The move reflects a broader commitment to inclusion and equal opportunity across all segments of society,” said Al-Ansari.

Beyond recruitment, she said that the programme also focuses on retention, ensuring that scholarship recipients remain engaged and transition effectively into the workforce upon graduation.

“This integrated approach strengthens the programme’s long-term impact and supports the sustainable development of national talent,” said Al-Ansari.

She encouraged students to apply, particularly in newly introduced fields that align with national priorities.

With its refined strategy, expanded specializations, and inclusive framework, the Government Scholarship Programme continues to demonstrate its effectiveness as a cornerstone of Qatar’s human development agenda, preparing a new generation of leaders equipped to drive the nation’s future.
