DOHA: Basketball and Cricket fans were treated to an action-packed weekend of sporting excitement with the quarter finals of the Basketball and Cricket Qatar Workers Cup taking place in Al Gharaffa and Al Wakra stadiums.
The Qatar Workers Cup, sponsored by Ooredoo and delivered by Qsports Leagues with Qatar 2022 Supreme Committee as strategic partners, is a pioneering initiative in Qatar to engage with all sections of the community and promote sports participation and activity for all. Companies are encouraged to register for the competition and allow their employees to play representing them.
The Basketball Workers Cup saw Nael and Bin Harmal Hydro Export narrowly beat Jaidah Group 54-50 at the Al Gharaffa Sporting Complex. Other teams who progressed to the semi-finals were tournament favourites JCI Ballers along with Team Creation Stars and Unibeton Ready Mix.
The quarter finals featured a huge hitting display from Redco Al Mana Team scoring a massive 226 runs from 10 overs as they demolished opponents Al Fowriya Trading. Team AAB and Milaha Rangers also progressed while Irinatech beat G4S by one run to squeeze into the final four.
The semi-finals and final for Basketball and Cricket will be held on Friday. The 2013 season will then conclude with the Ooredoo Volleyball Qatar Workers Cup scheduled to commence in early June.
The Workers Cup Programme forms an integral component of efforts to reach out and engage with all sections of the community in Qatar.
