Doha: The State Minister H E Abdullah bin Khalifa Al Attiyah hailed H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani’s decision to hand over power to H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani as a step that “no one but the great would do.”
In an interview with Qatar TV yesterday, Al Attiyah said Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani made the decision when he deemed the time was right, adding that H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani was qualified to run the country.
He added that he was not surprised by the decision but rather by the timing. “A few years ago, I heard Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani saying he thought the Heir Apparent was the man to continue the blessed march when the right time came around.”
The Minister said: “Sheikh Tamim will receive support and assistance and the people of Qatar, I believe, are confident he will lead this march”.
