DOHA: Ramadan will begin in Qatar on Saturday, if the moon is sighted on Friday.
The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs has called on all Muslims to watch the sky for the crescent moon during sunset on Friday. Those who spot the crescent of the holy month have been asked to report to the ministry’s headquarters in Dafna.
The Crescent Sighting Committee at the ministry will meet on the same day after Maghrib prayers, after which an announcement is expected on the commencement of Ramadan.
Meanwhile, in preparation for the holy month, the ministry has opened seven new mosques with a total capacity of 3,000 worshipers in Al Eb, Al Khor, Al Laqtifia, Ain Khalid, Al Wakra and Azghawa.
