DOHA: Qatar’s Al Rayyan yesterday stunned Brazil’s Magnus Futsal 4-2 on second day of the Futsal Intercontinental Cup at Ali Bin Hamad Al Attiya Arena in Doha.
After losing their opening match against Movistar Inter, Al Rayyan showed clinical display throughout the match to open their account in the tournament.
Al Rayyan’s Arthur Linhares opened the scoring in the 10th minute, unleashing a powerful left-footed strike to the left of goalie Tiago de Melho.
In the 16th minute, Magnus Futsal ‘s Diego Rodrigo beat Al Rayyan defense and the goalie but his powerful close-range shot hit the crossbar and landed in the hands of Pereira da Silva.
A minute from half-time, Magnus Futsal’s Borja Diaz smashed a powerful shot that was well saved by Da Silva.
In the 25th minute, Thiago Trippi scored Al Rayyan’s second goal following a goalie blunder by De Melo.
Leandro Simi reduced the deficit for the visitors in the 29th minute.
Al Rayyan’s Linares found and empty net in the 33rd minute. Rodrigo Hardy of Magnus Futsal scored his team’s second goal two minutes later.
Al Rayyan’s Amro Mohssein added his team’s fourth goal in the 37th minute from close range.
In the other game yesterday, FC Barcelona Lassa beat FC Dynamo Moscow 3-1.
Meanwhile, in the late Friday match, Brazilian giants Magnus Futsal launched their campaign on a positive note by crushing SL Benfica of Portugal 4-2.
Living up to past reputation, Magnus Futsal raced to a 3-0 lead in just 21 minutes after strikes by Rodrigo (6), Falcao (18) and Keko (21).
SL Benfica reduced the deficit through Bruno Coelho (36) but superstar Falco fired his second goal of the game in the 39th minute.
Alan Brandi scored SL Benfica’s second goal in the 40th minute.
In the day’s last game on Friday, Spanish giants FC Barcelona Lassa returned a 4-2 card in win over Iran champions Tasisat Daryaei.
Wilde struck a superb hat-trick (1, 15 and 35) to power Lassa to a comfortable win. Lin was the other scorer for Lassa in the 25th minute.
Abbasi (20) and Shamsaei (26) were the scorers for the Iranian club at Ladies Sports Hall at Aspire Academy. The eight-team tournament ends on June 29.
