Doha, Qatar: Young inventors participating in the Qatar Scientific Club’s “Young Inventors” programme have moved into the second phase focused on engineering design, transforming initial concepts into structured technical plans ready for prototyping.
The Qatar Scientific Club (QSC), affiliated with the Ministry of Sports and Youth, announced yesterday on X that participants are now engaged in developing clear designs from their earlier ideas. In this stage, they learn systematic engineering methods to plan solutions, refine concepts through measured steps, and prepare workable models that can progress to implementation.
The programme forms part of a national initiative launched by the Ministry of Sports and Youth during Web Summit Qatar 2026. It targets talented youth aged 15 to 30 who show strong interest in science, technology and innovation. The first phase, centred on design thinking, concluded earlier this month and equipped participants with foundational skills in creative problem-solving and project planning.
During the current engineering design phase, participants work in collaborative settings to produce technical drawings, select appropriate materials and develop detailed specifications. Activities include hands-on sketching on technical paper, group discussions and guided sessions that help convert broad ideas into precise, executable designs. Mentors and facilitators provide support as the young innovators refine their projects and prepare for the transition to physical prototypes.

QSC officials noted that this phase marks a critical point where the features of innovation become more visible. Participants apply engineering principles to ensure their solutions are practical, feasible and aligned with real-world applications. The structured approach helps them move systematically from conceptual thinking toward tangible outcomes.
The third and final phase, project implementation, is scheduled to begin later this month. It will enable participants to build prototypes and present their completed projects before a judging panel. Successful projects are expected to demonstrate creativity, technical soundness and potential impact in areas relevant to Qatar’s development priorities.
The Young Inventors programme reflects the club’s longstanding commitment, since its establishment in 1987, to fostering scientific learning, research and innovation among Qatari youth.
