SEOUL: South Korea's top air carrier Korean Air Lines Co. said Wednesday that it has clinched a 35 billion won (US$31 million) deal to upgrade the U.S. F-16 fighter fleet in the Asia-Pacific region.
Under the deal with the U.S. Air Force, Korean Air will apply radar-absorbing coating to the fighters to help improve their stealth systems, and conduct maintenance for the fighters between October and March 2018, Korean Air said, without elaborating on the number of U.S. fighters, South Korean News Agency (Yonhap) reported.
The flagship carrier said it has conducted maintenance for about 630 U.S. F-16 fighters since 1983.
The latest order came a day after Korean Air submitted a letter of intent to the Korea Development Bank to buy a 41.75% stake in the aircraft manufacturer Korea Aerospace Industries Ltd. (QNA)
