DOHA: An Al Jazeera correspondent has alleged that he was prevented by Bahraini authorities from covering the 33rd GCC Supreme Council summit which concluded in Bahrain yesterday.
“The Bahraini authorities prevented me from covering the summit, and officials, including the Minister of Information Samira Rajab, justified the move saying they had received my application late,” Asem Al Ghamedi, the correspondent assigned by Al Jazeera to cover the summit, said on his Twitter account yesterday.
‘I applied on December 5 and I received confirmation note that they have received my application on the same date,” he added.
Semira Rajab has denied the allegation, saying: “What happened is that his (Asem Al Ghamidi) application reached the media committee concerned after the deadline, and the same thing happened to many other channels.”
Many observers believe the Bahraini authorities may not be happy with the way Al Jazeera has covered the unrest in Bahrain over the past two years.
