DOHA: Nurses and physicians at several primary health centres are getting special training in triaging as part of efforts to address the crowding in such facilities.

The Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) has tied up with the US-based Triage First to train medical staff at health centers in classifying patients based on their health condition to give priority of the most urgent cases.

A two-week training course is currently under way with this objective. The PHCC had signed an agreement with Triage First to train 100 nurses and 20 doctors from selected health centres.

Accordingly, an expert team from Triage First conducted field visits to two most crowded health centres — Rayyan and Umm Ghuwailina — to evaluate the situation.

These two facilities have been facing severe space constraints and crowding on a daily basis.

According to Laila Al Jasmi, head of the workforce training department at PHCC, the course aimed at improving the skills of nurses and physicians in classifying patients and identifying the critical and emergency cases.
