Red Bull Salzburg waltzed into the semi-finals of Al Kass 2017 courtesy of a virtuoso performance from striker Aminu Mohamed, at the Aspire Zone yesterday.
Aminu's two extraordinary goals will be talked about for years to come by those lucky enough to have witnessed them.
The result was a little cruel on a gallant PSG side, who contributed massively to an absorbing contest, but ultimately the Austrians were good value for their 3-2 victory.
The Austrians went into the lead when Aminu Mohamed slammed home a half volley from 30 yards out to put Salzburg in front. In terms of technical execution, it was arguably the strike of the tournament, and one that instantly entered Al Kass International Cup’s all-time Hall of Fame.
Red Bull picked up the pieces and were soon two goals to the good. There seemed to be little immediate danger when Moussa Sissako failed to clear his defensive lines properly. However, Aminu pounced and blasted a companion piece to his first goal into the top left corner, from all of 25 yards out.
On 52 minutes, PSG reduced the deficit. Dangerman Weah scoring the goal.
Aidin Ovanovicadded the third one for the Austrian team.
But then, with eight minutes remaining, PSG secured a lifeline when Postolachi rose unmarked to meet a corner from the right and finish emphatically, to make the score 3-2.
On Thursday, Aspiredefeated Esperance De Tunis 2-1 to reach the semis, while Eintracht Frankfurt defeated PSV Eindhoven by three goals to advance to the last four stage.
