More Arab cooperation needed to advance social development: Saudi minister

Doha: Minister of Human Resources and Social Development in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and Chairman of the 41st Meeting of the Council of Arab Ministers of Social Affairs H E Eng. Ahmad bin Sulaiman Al Rajhi called for more cooperation between Arab countries to advance Arab social development through visions based on the achievements of the member countries. 

In his speech during the 42nd Meeting of the Council of Arab Ministers of Social Affairs in Doha yesterday, he stressed the importance of utilising the difficulties and challenges to support joint Arab social development action, implement plans and programmes to strengthen social policies in the Arab countries, and translate them into reality.

He said that the Kingdom’s presidency of the previous session witnessed the implementation of many important activities after periods of interruption due to the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. 

He said that the Conference of Ministers of Social Affairs, the Arab Ministerial Councils concerned with social sectors, and the Social Transformation Management Programme Forum for Arab Ministers of Social Affairs marked an important breakthrough in the context of recovering from the pandemic, and moving forward to continue implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Eng Al Rajhi affirmed his country’s keenness to promote and upgrade joint Arab action and to achieve more active interaction and comprehensive coordination with all Arab countries in all areas of social development. 

He also reviewed the Kingdom’s efforts, achievements and initiatives in the field of supporting people with disabilities in light of its Vision 2030, and the empowerment initiatives for this group at various levels.
