DOHA: A group of volunteers will be trained by Civil Defence to create safety awareness among the public, particularly among school students.
Volunteers will be trained as part of a comprehensive awareness programme Civil Defence is planning to implement in the year 2013- 2014 with the support of Ezdan Holding Group.
Dr Sheikh Khalid bin Thani bin Abdullah Al Thani, Chairman of Ezdan Holding Group, yesterday handed over a cheque for QR1m to Brigadier Abdullah Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director General, General Directorate of Civil Defence, at an event held at the Civil Defence headquarters.
“We believe that helping the community is part of our responsibility, therefore we support all institutions which serve the community,” said Dr Khalid.
He also toured the Civil Defence headquarters and was briefed by Brigadier Al Suwaidi on the equipment and services provided by the department.
The awareness campaign will be held to ensure the safety and security of all establishments across the country.
Brigadier Al Suwaidi, stressing the importance of partnership between the private and public sectors, said:
“Ezdan has helped many initiatives, and is now supporting the awareness campaign of Civil Defence, expressing its social responsibility.”
A team of male and female volunteers trained by Civil Defence will go to schools and public places and educate people about how to be safe and react during emergency situations. Lectures, workshops and competitions will be organised among students and the public.
More training will be given to Civil Defence staff to enhance their skills in handling crisis situations.
The Civil Defence exhibition and conference will focus on how to improve their services.
A specially designed vehicle will tour schools and public places, while art and theatre activities will be held across the country as part of the awareness campaign.
A monthly Arabic magazine will be published in English and Urudu as well to reach more readers.
