Opposition calls for more support

DOHA: Excited about being allotted Syria’s vacant seat at the Arab League, Syria’s opposition National Coalition has said it should be provided legal recognition and support to open up diplomatic missions so they could provide consular services to fellow citizens overseas.

“Having Syria’s seat at the Arab League is a welcome step, but in order that we play our part more effectively, we must be given further support,” a spokesman for the Syrian delegation at the Arab Summit, told reporters yesterday.

Enabling the National Coalition to have diplomatic missions overseas is necessary since Syrians based overseas can be provided different types of services, said Khalid Al Saleh.
