London: The UK government is planning to lift quarantine requirements for a slew of countries as soon as July 6, the British Press Association reported on Saturday, citing government officials.
The list of countries, set to be published next week, will include Spain, France, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Finland, Belgium, Turkey, Germany and Norway, with the exception of Portugal and Sweden due to the increased rates of transmission of the Coronavirus (Covid-19) among the individuals in them.
They added that the aim of easing the travel restrictions "is to give the British a chance to spend the summer vacation abroad and stimulate the economy," stressing that easing the restrictions depends on the risks of the corona epidemic remaining at low limits.
The UK government plans to classify the external destinations into three sections "green, yellow and red", according to the degree of the pandemic , while keeping the option to change the categories according to the change in the situation there.
The UK government is under great pressure from British travel and airline companies to ease restrictions on travel abroad, in an attempt to avoid bankruptcy and the loss of tens of thousands of jobs. (QNA)
