Doha, Qatar: The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has revealed breakthroughs in the sustainability field as part of the building projects it has been implementing since 2022.
In a statement on Monday, Ashghal noted that it has been leveraging an integrated system to manage and recycle millions of tons of construction and demolition (C&D) waste, thereby enhancing resource utilization efficiency, reducing waste, and fostering the principles of the circular economy in alignment with the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030 and the Third National Development Strategy.
The statement recalled that Ashghal has repurposed and diverted approximately 2.5 million cubic meters of excavated material to Qatar Primary Materials Company's recycling facilities, while recycling more than 300,000 tons of C&D waste.
Ashghal further outlined that it has repurposed roughly 80,000 tons of wood waste on site, while diverting 7,000 tons of plastic waste, 3,000 tons of paper waste, and 1,000 tons of scrap metal to approved recycling facilities.
This is alongside the reuse of almost 8,000 tons of food waste by converting it into organic compost or processing it at designated facilities.
