Snag hits model jail project
ISLAMABAD: Pakistani capital city’s “model jail” project hits a snag due to delay in payment of land compensation, it has been learnt. The ground-breaking ceremony of the jail, which is scheduled to be held on September 30, seems unlikely to take place as the Capital Development Authority (CDA) is yet to pay the compensation to half of the affected people from whom the land had been acquired, sources in the CDA said here yesterday.
11 rebels killed in Afghanistan
Kabul: At least 11 Taliban militants were killed and 23 detained in joint operations by Afghan forces and the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan (ISAF) across the country in the past 24 hours. The Interior Ministry said in a statement yesterday that Afghan and ISAF carried out operations in Kunduz, Balkh, Kandahar, Oruzgan, Paktia, Paktika, Herat, Helmand and Nimruz provinces. They also seized large quantities of heavy and light weapons.
Taliban abduct four soldiers
Kabul: At least four Afghan National Army soldiers were kidnapped by Taliban militants in Kunduz province in Afghanistan, authorities said yesterday. The incident took place in Khanabad district late on Wednesday, they said. The Taliban have not commented on the incident yest. Kunduz is among the peaceful provinces in northern Afghanistan, however, militants have increased their activities in the province. They frequently target officials and plant roadside bombs.
