DOHA: A special session aimed at strengthening Arab participation in UN Climate Change Conference yesterday discussed Qatar’s efforts toward sustainability.
As the Arab bloc’s representation has been weaken in the past, a new session ‘Hikma Hours’ has been introduced and it is aimed at focusing on the knowledge of ancient Arabs on how to deal with adverse climatic conditions.
The Qatar Sustainability Network (QSN), a 33-day-old Non-Governmental Organisation’s partners shared their actions taken for sustainability.
“We believe what ever decisions taken; the young generation should act to stop climate change,” said Nasser Al Kuwari, representing Qatar Foundation International, a member of the network.
The Qatar Sustainability Network with several leading Qatari stakeholders have committed to establishing a network that collectively enhances the culture of research, science, and sustainability through active public engagement.
The network aims to inspire, inform, empower, and educate to improve the quality of life for future generations in Qatar. QSN aims to become an active platform for the advancement of the science-based sustainability agenda in Qatar and beyond.
Christopher Silva who is in charge of sustainable activities of students at the Hamad bin Khalifa University said, “Engagement with climate change should bring to the forefront and be transparent.”
“We work on sustainability, our new building designs, with solar panels are one example,” he said.
Hikma is the Arabic word for ‘wisdom’ and the 11 sessions, which are open to all participants at the Climate Change Conference, aims to bring the Arab world to the forefront of climate change discussions for the first time.
