MANILA: The hepatitis B vaccine recalled by Chinese health authorities is not registered with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Department of Health (DOH) said yesterday.
“We are monitoring this but as far as the DOH is concerned, we are not using that vaccine in our immunisation programme,” DOH Assistant Secretary Eric Tayag said. Tayag said the DOH acquires its vaccine supplies from the United Nations Children’s Fund.
Chinese health authorities have ordered the recall of the hepatitis vaccine following the death of several infants immunized with it. The victims were residents of Guangdong, Hunan and Sichuan.

Lozano identified the survivors as Muksin and Loli Ambasal, who told investigators they played dead as the gunmen opened fire at them.

MANILA: A female employee of a pawnshop was shot dead as she resisted two motorcycle-riding robbers yesterday morning in Makati City.
Reports reaching the Southern Police District identified the victim as Racquel Ricafrenete, 21, a floating appraiser of the Tambunting Pawnshop located at Einhoven St in Barangay Palanan.
According to reports, Ricafrente was walking along Dian St at about 11am on her way to the BPI branch on the same street  when the suspects cut her off at the corner of Calatagan St.
Police said Ricafrente was about to deposit an undetermined amount of cash contained in a black bag.
