Doha: With a view to enable students to appear for the board examinations successfully and to overcome exam related stress, MES Indian School organised orientation sessions for the parents of Class X and XII students at the KG auditorium of the school on February 14 and 15.
Principal officiating Hameeda Kadar, who conducted the sessions, emphasized the need for the parents to exercise patience, endurance and empathy and extend moral support to the efforts of children.
The session primarily focused on parental roles in various child related fields, such as preserving child’s self-esteem, encouraging their physical activities at regular basis, the necessity for developing, establishing trust among children, spending quality time with them, conforming to healthy food diet, refraining from the use of modern gadgets and the importance of playing a supportive role at this crucial juncture when the board exam is around the corner.
Speaking on the essentialities of parenting, Hameeda Kadar urged the parents to extend support to the collective efforts of the school in its initiative to de-stress students, who are facing the board exam. She insisted to provide a conducive ambience at home that will enable these children to devote undivided attention in their exam preparation.
High parental expectations and parental behaviours may result in exam related stress and contribute to depressive disorder in children. Further, examination pressure takes away from these stressed-out children their vitality, and contributes to their inability to understand the importance of their existence.
They were also given parenting tips on confidence building measures to be adopted in order to make their children appear for the boards in a stress free and confident manner. In addition, Hameeda Kadar has also been appointed as the CBSE board examination counsellor for the Qatar region to provide pre-examination psychological counselling to Class X and XII students and parents.
