Qatar, Korea varsities sign cooperation pact

Doha: Qatar University (QU) has tied up with Korea University (KU) to collaborate on several joint research and academic projects.

A five-year agreement signed yesterday, will establish partnerships related to study, research and teaching between the two institutions. 

QU’s College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) hosted faculty from KU’s College of Life Sciences and Biotechnology at the signing ceremony, which was followed by a presentation on ecosystem science by Professor Yowhan Son, Director of the Institute of Environmental Ecology at KU.

The agreement includes visits and exchange of graduate and undergraduate students for study and research, visits by and interchange of staff for research, teaching and discussions among other initiatives, QU said yesterday.

“Our partnership will begin with the launch of exchange programs for students and academic staff, as well as research collaboration in the fields of biology and environmental sciences. These collaborations will bring significant benefits to KU and QU,” KU’s Professor I H Kim said.

The agreement was signed by CAS Dean Dr Eiman Mustafawi and KU’s Dean of the College of Life Sciences and Biotechnology Professor Kim, in the presence of QU President Professor Sheikha A Misnad, QU Vice-President of Academic Affairs Dr Mazen Hasna, Head of QU’s Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences Prof Samir Jaoua, KU Vice Dean Prof T S Kim and faculty from both universities.

“We look forward to a strong partnership with Korea University, sharing knowledge and expertise which will benefit faculty and students of both institutions,” QU’s Dr Eiman Mustafawi said.
