DOHA: Pari Gallery hosted the launch of Escentric Molecules, urban international fragrance house’s, latest line of fragrances in the presence of the society’s dignitaries, esteemed members of the press, along with a host of luxury fragrances enthusiasts.
Escentric Molecules celebrated perfumery as the art of chemistry. The fragrances are presented in binary pairs. Each pair explores the qualities of one aroma molecule in two different ways. The Escentric fragrance in each pair focuses on an exceptional aroma-molecule, amplifying its key qualities.
The Molecule fragrance in each pair takes a radically minimalist approach. It contains no odorants other than the aroma-molecule, pure and singular. Stripping away the pretension that often surrounds the fragrance world, Escentric Molecules focuses on what is truly exceptional about perfumery, the aroma-molecules that are the perfumer’s palette.
In 2006, the German perfumer Geza Schoen introduced the minimalist fragrance Escentric Molecule 01 as a cheeky rebuke to the excesses of the fragrance world. This “anti-perfume” contained only synthetic materials, including an overdose of the woody, barely-there aroma-chemical Iso E Super.
With Molecule 01, Schoen made consumers an irresistible promise: “The perfume is like magical, invisible ink — it will amplify, rather than overwhelm, your natural pheromones.”
Fans of the scent began to boast that while they could not smell it on themselves, everyone around them was drawn in like a moth. Almost overnight, the perfume designed to troll the industry became an industry monster. To this day, it is one of the top-selling niche fragrances of all time. Escentric Molecules has 10 perfumes in their fragrance base.
