The 20th edition of the Doha Forum, which brought together some of the world’s most influential voices, came to a close yesterday setting a tone for a more collaborative, interconnected and transformative world.
Prime Minister and Minister of Interior H E Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani attended the closing ceremony of Doha Forum 2022, which was held under the theme ‘Transforming for a New Era,’ at Sheraton Doha.
The closing ceremony was attended by a number of Their Highnesses and Excellencies Ministers, high-ranking officials from sisterly and friendly countries, participants from all over the world, and diplomats.
The forum hosted several discussions centred on geopolitical alliances and international relations; the financial system and economic development; defence, cybersecurity, and food security; and sustainability and climate change.
Doha Forum 2022’s two impactful days of dialogue and diplomacy ended with a message of hope and call for collective and urgent actions by President of the Republic of Kosovo, H E Dr. Vjosa Osmani.
“These are dark times, but there is indeed a silver lining, there have been significant efforts to build on the resilience of the international system, and we have seen alliances strengthen in solidarity and working together,” said Osmani.
“If we really want to transform for a new era, we will need to do it hand in hand. This world is full of opportunity, potential and beauty. We just need to work together to ensure we not only preserve its positivity but ensure they flourish,” added Osmani.
She emphasized on the positive impact Qatar has made in international arena.
“Qatar is a country that has shown the potential of global leadership and corporation despite its size and will be bringing people together for sports, later as they host the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and we will all be watching from Kosovo. It’s a lesson for all of us that small countries can and should have an impact.
“This year’s theme Transforming For a New Era, of the 20th edition of the Doha Forum could not come at a more important time, with endless challenges around the world, it is time to rethink how we move forward,” she added.
Osmani said policy makers must find new ways of cooperation and make better use of existing international mechanisms for the benefit of people they represent as the world recovers from the pandemic and indeed the largest shock to the economy since the Second World War.
“With history constantly being made, new alliances being made and number of global challenges continue to grow, multilateralism has never been more important. The Doha Forum underscores the significance of dialogue, diplomacy and diversity,” Osmani stressed.
Speaking about Kosovo, Osmani emphasised on the importance of multilateralism and said that it shaped her country to find freedom.
“Kosovo might be a small country but our voice is mighty. And we have an important story to tell, I represent the people who know the sacrifice that comes with hardship; the value of freedom and success when it’s achieved. Events like the Doha Forum are crucial to have our voice heard,” she said.
On Russia and Ukraine conflict, she urged everyone to come together in condemning Russia’s aggression on Ukraine noting, “Otherwise I fear events will only get worse,” she said.
