Doha: A brilliant hat-trick from Adriano Ferreira Martins helped Qatar Sports Club crush Muaither 4-0 and advance to the third round of the Emir Cup here yesterday.
Also making it to the next round was Al Wakra who notched a convincing 4-1 win over Markhiya.
In the third round, Qatar SC will take on Al Ahli at Al Arabi Stadium, while Al Wakra will face Al Arabi at Qatar SC Stadium, both matches are on April 30.
Yesterday at the Al Arabi Stadium, Qatar SC was on a roll.
The Sebestiao Lazaroni’s side started on an impressive note and dictated terms and they did not have to wait for long to open the goal scoring.
Adriano opened the scoring in the 21st minute and added a second one three minute later. The Brazilian striker went on to complete his hat-trick in the 60th minute.
In the second half, substitute Abdulla Ali Deyani scored with two minutes left for the final whistle to complete the rout.
In the other match yesterday, Al Wakra found the net through the efforts of Said Boutahar in the 12th minute.
Thereafter, Al Wakra scored goals at regular intervals through Michel Souza (17), Ali Abdulla Marri (22) to go into the half time with a 3-0 lead.
In the second half, Abdulla Adnam Aldkeel pulled one back for Markhiya in the 59th minute but Wakra struck again in the 61st through Jorge Sebastian Saez to make it 4-1 and the score remained that way till the final whistle.
Meanwhile, Qatar Stars League’s second division winners Al Shamal’s successful run in the tournament came to an end yesterday. Al Khor thrashed the next season’s QSL promotion winning side 5-1.
Kharaitiyat also advanced into the third round with a 1-0 win over Al Rayyan.
The winning teams Qatar SC, Al Wakra, Al Khor and Kharaitiyat join Al Ahli, Umm Salal, Al Arabi and Al Gharafa in the third round. The quarter-finals of the tournament will be on May 3.
The semi-finals matches will be on May 10, both at Al Sadd Stadium. The final of the tournament, which brings to close the football season in Qatar, will take place on May 17 at Khalifa Stadium The Peninsula
