New Delhi: Girls once again outperformed boys in the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class 12 exams this year, with the pass percentage for girls being 87.98, compared to 77.78 for boys.
“The results of the Class 12 examinations were declared today (Monday) by the board. The pass percentage increased by 1.91 percent. Girls have outshone boys this year too with their pass percentage 10.20 percent more compared to the boys,” Rama Sharma, CBSE spokesperson, said.
Vidhit Bhargava, who topped the Delhi Public School (DPS), R K Puram in south Delhi, securing 97 percent in the science stream, said: “I am proud and happy. I was preparing for IIT side by side. I started concentrating solely on the board exams one month before the pre-boards. I was confident that I will do well.” He aims to go to IIT-Delhi.
The results this year also assume significance for students who aspire to make it to the IITs, as weightage is given for Class 12 performance. The top 20 percentile cut off for the JEE (Joint Entrance Examination) accordingly is 391 for general categories this year. For Other Backward Classes (OBCs) it will be 389, 350 for Scheduled Castes and 338 for Scheduled Tribes.
In Chennai and Panchkula regions, the results were declared on Wednesday. Chennai region performed the best among all eight regions of CBSE with a pass percentage of 91.83, followed by Delhi at 86.78 percent. Allahabad region, with a pass percentage of 71.82, scored the lowest.
“Students who wish to apply for rechecking or scrutiny of marks can do so online within the next five days, beginning today (Monday). The fee is Rs300 per subject for the next five days. From the sixth and within 21 days from the date of declaration of results, the fee is Rs200 per subject,” Sharma said. For candidates who have failed, the first chance for reappearing will be July 16.
Students from abroad, including the Gulf region, have outperformed their India counterparts, recording a pass percentage of 95.18. Girls performed better than boys from abroad as well, with 97.60 percent of girls set to get the qualifying certificate as compared to 92.57 percent boys.
This year, 9,44,721 students took the Class 12 board examinations in India and abroad.
According to the CBSE, the number of cheating cases in this year’s examinations saw an increase with 63 cases, as compared to 47 cases reported last year.
