RAWALPINDI: The Pakistan Railways is ready to drop a bombshell on its passengers when the new government led by Nawaz Sharif will take reigns of the country in the first week of June this year.

Credible sources revealed yesterday that the railway authorities have moved a summary with the federal government demanding an increase in fares by 100 percent.

The summary has been forwarded one week back to seek the nod of the government in this regard. Briefing on the plan of the railway authorities, which would have an adverse effect on the train passengers, sources said that an increase in fares by Rs1 per kilometre per head has been sought.

The distance between Karachi and Rawalpindi is 1,400km. So there would be 100 percent increase in train fares between the two cities, if the plan is implemented.
