New York: A small plane crashed into the Hudson River in New York on Friday, killing one person believed to be the pilot, police said.

Police and firefighters launched a search of the river at the site of the crash and after several hours divers recovered a body, a spokesman said.

The plane is a World War II-era P-47 Thunderbolt that was due to take part in an air show this weekend, news reports said.
