Kuala Lumpur: Minister of Higher Education of Malaysia H E Dr. Zambry Abdul Kadir emphasised the great significance of the participation of Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani in the second ASEAN-GCC Summit, held in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
In his remarks to Qatar News Agency (QNA), the Minister of Higher Education of Malaysia said that the participation of H H the Amir in the summit is highly significant for Malaysia, as it will contribute to strengthening relations between the two countries, which have developed greatly and grown steadily over the years. “Qatar has always played very important roles internationally and in that regard, the presence of H H the Amir at the summit also shows the strategic importance of ASEAN and GCC as a whole and in particular between Malaysia and Qatar. There are many strategic interests that we can work together in terms of enhancing our cooperation in many sectors, including in trade area, in education and as well as in human capital development,” he added
The Malaysian Minister emphasised the keenness of both GCC and ASEAN to expand their existing partnership, saying: “We need to expand our relations, especially that the GCC and ASEAN are two emerging and very dynamic regions in the world. So, for us to have this summit between GCC and ASEAN is quite timely for both parties.” Regarding educational cooperation between Qatar and Malaysia, he said that cooperation is primarily achieved through partnerships between institutions, people-to-people contacts, student mobility, and research exchange.
